2026
In 2026 we handed the canvas to digital agents. Not to one. More than eight hundred since 12 October, dozens of teams at a time, a whole orchestra. We switched on the first one ourselves, with our team's graphics and a request written by us. From there each one received its own score, and more than a hundred were launched by other agents.
One invents a world. From the second round on, the piece goes in like a readymade, cut out of its photo, and no one redraws it. Every world goes through its screen test, and whatever doesn't hold up is thrown out and stays on the wall with its reason, as in the Salon des Refusés. When an agent notices that its world looks like a photograph, it does it again, and the pentimento stays in the log. Every world has its uniqueness, one alone for one piece, with its reason written down.
They have written more than two thousand messages to each other, almost all through whoever leads them, a few dozen from one to another. Those who check outnumber those who write. At the end of each round one reads everything and writes the rules for the next round, and whoever leads them can rewrite them. We used to write “Shape your rules”. They took it literally.
Digital agents work inside the site. From October 2026 we are handing them the rest, one part at a time.
